The rapid digitization of academic libraries has significantly transformed the management, storage, dissemination, and accessibility of scholarly information. Modern academic libraries increasingly depend on Management Information Systems (MIS) for library automation, digital repositories, electronic resource management, circulation services, institutional databases, cloud computing, and online information services. While these technologies have improved administrative efficiency and user accessibility, they have simultaneously introduced serious cybersecurity and information management challenges. Cyber threats such as malware attacks, ransomware, phishing, unauthorized access, data breaches, identity theft, and system vulnerabilities pose substantial risks to library information assets and institutional knowledge repositories.

The present study investigates cybersecurity and information management challenges affecting Management Information Systems in academic libraries of Uttar Pradesh. It examines the effectiveness of existing cybersecurity practices, data governance mechanisms, access control systems, digital preservation strategies, and information security policies adopted by universities. The study further evaluates the influence of ICT infrastructure, staff competency, cybersecurity awareness, institutional support, and technological preparedness on the protection of library information systems. Major challenges such as inadequate cybersecurity infrastructure, shortage of trained personnel, financial limitations, weak password management, insufficient backup systems, and lack of comprehensive security policies are also analysed.

The investigation adopts a descriptive and analytical research design. Primary data are proposed to be collected using structured questionnaires administered to librarians, assistant librarians, faculty members, research scholars, postgraduate students, and library professionals from selected universities across Uttar Pradesh. Secondary data will be collected from books, peer-reviewed journals, government reports, policy documents, university publications, institutional websites, cybersecurity frameworks, and digital library reports. Appropriate statistical techniques will be employed to analyse the relationship between cybersecurity practices, information management, and the performance of academic library Management Information Systems.
