Comparative analysis of multi-component yoga vs. cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia: A randomised controlled stud

Author : Anu Kant Mittal and Dr. Gurbir Dullet

Abstract

The purpose of this randomised controlled trial is to evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and Multi-Component Yoga (MCY) in terms of enhancing the quality of sleep, reducing the severity of insomnia, and treating symptoms of anxiety and depression. persons with chronic insomnia were randomly assigned to either the MCY or CBT-I groups, with a total of 120 persons participating. Both interventions were carried out over the course of eight weeks, with pre- and post-treatment evaluations being carried out. For each and every one of the measures, including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), significant improvements were shown in both groups. On the other hand, objective sleep outcomes, which were evaluated via actigraphy, demonstrated that both groups saw reductions in sleep start latency as well as increases in total sleep time. It was discovered that there were no significant differences between the two therapies, which suggests that both MCY and CBT-I are equally successful in managing instances of insomnia and the symptoms that are connected with it.
