This study investigates differences in motivation levels between medalist and non-medalist handball players from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan schools, focusing on intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and amotivation. Twenty-three players were divided into medalists (those who placed second or higher) and non-medalists, assessed using the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS). Independent t-tests compared group means. Results revealed medalists had significantly higher intrinsic motivation (M = 4.65, SD = 0.78) than non-medalists (M = 3.80, SD = 0.90; t = 2.34, p = 0.025). No significant differences emerged for extrinsic motivation (t = 1.12, p = 0.276) or a motivation (t = -1.89, p = 0.068), though non-medalists showed higher amotivation trends. Findings align with Self-Determination Theory underscoring intrinsic motivation's role in athletic achievement. Implications for educators and coaches include fostering intrinsic drives to enhance student engagement and performance in school sports.
